Consolidating smaller consignments for economical, frequent movements

What is Groupage?
Groupage combines smaller consignments into one line-haul to share space and costs. Road groupage is akin to LTL; sea groupage is known as LCL.
Modes & Typical Documents
Mode | Term | Common Document |
---|---|---|
Road | Groupage / LTL | CMR Consignment Note |
Sea | LCL (Less than Container Load) | House/ Master Bill of Lading |
Air | Consolidation | HAWB / MAWB |
Pros & Considerations
- Pros: Lower entry cost, frequent departures, scalable for steady flows.
- Considerations: Extra handling steps; slightly longer transit than direct FTL/FCL.
